Welcome to Day 7 of this 30-Day Book Challenge. The challenge is simple; for each day there is a statement and you have to choose a book or series that relates to said statement. Let’s begin!
For this challenge, I’m going to go with Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma. This book follows the two siblings, Lochan and Maya. They don’t have the best life. Their father walked out on their family when they were young and there mother, who never fully recovered from this heartache, spends her days going from one guy to the next. Because of this, Lochan and Maya have stepped up to fill the parental role for their three younger siblings. They cook, clean, and take care of there younger siblings and the house. Lochan and Maya have become closer as they take on more responsibility and their love for each other start to go beyond the lines of just sibling love— becoming forbidden love.
I’m not sure if this really is an underrated book, but I don’t know many people who have read this book and I feel like more people should read this book. This book centers around a very controversial topic that leaves many readers feeling divided because they don’t know how to feel about it. I personally still don’t know how I feel about this book. The story of Lochan and Maya is incredibly heartbreaking. On one hand, society is telling us that what they are doing is wrong, but on the other hand, you can understand their reason why they feel the way they do. I really do want to re-read this book, but I don’t think it will be anytime soon. I have to mentally prepare myself for that ending because that ending was tragic and I don’t think I can handle it right now.
