Series: The Lux Series
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
The Lux series is a young adult paranormal by Jennifer L. Armentrout consisting of five novels. For the most part, this story takes place in a small town in West Virginia. The series follows our two main characters Katy Swartz and Daemon Black. This paranormal adventure is filled with action, witty comebacks, book blogging and of course, HOT ALIENS (what more could you ask for?)!

12578077Obsidian is the first book in this series. This book is told from Katy’s POV. Katy has recently moved to West Virginia with her mother. After losing her father to cancer, her mother decided that they both needed a fresh start, so they packed up their things and found themselves in a small town in West Virginia. Katy is a book blogger who spends her days reading and obsessing over fictional characters. In hopes of getting her out the house, her mother suggests that she go over to the neighbors house and introduce herself.                                                                                                                                                 Daemon Black: arrogant, has an ego, and is horribly rude. Katy can’t stand him. But despite her hate for Daemon, she becomes close friends with his twin sister, Dee. But Daemon tries to keep the two apart, telling Katy to stay away from them. Katy can’t understand what she did to Daemon for him to hate her with such a passion. But when Katy is almost killed, Daemon saves her and his secret is revealed: he’s an ALIEN!
13047090In the second installment, Onyx, events from the previous book have now caused Katy and Daemon to become linked and it changes their relationship. Linked or not, Katy wants nothing to do with Daemon and his bad attitude. Daemon on the other hand wants the total opposite and is determined to show Katy a different side of him. It doesn’t help that their is a new boy in town. Blake Saunders catches Katy’s eye and starts spending time with him. But she soon learns that the new guy has a little secret: he’s just like Katy. He too is linked to a Luxen. This makes Daemon uneasy and he warns Katy to stay away from Blake.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               To add fuel to the fire, the Department of Defense have been lurking in the shadows, watching their every move. This leads to Katy crossing paths with someone that should be dead. Has everything the DOD said been a lie, and if so, how will Daemon handle knowing that their is a possibility that his twin brother Dawson could be alive?
13362536In the third installment, Opal, Katy has changed. After almost being killed, yet again, she is done being weak. She wants to help take down DOD and get answers. Also, Dawson has returned home, but Bethany, his girlfriend is still missing. Dawson reveals that DOD was holding him and Bethany again their will. They performed experiments on them, made him torture innocent lives. Dawson is determined to get Bethany back and in order to do that they have to rely on an unlikely enemy, Blake.                                                                                                                                                                                                           Blake hopes that if they help each other, he can help the Luxen he is connected to escape. Katy believes that they need to give it a shot, but Daemon is not on board, and he has every right to be. Will the group be successful in taking down DOD or will their plan lead to someone being left behind?
13644052In the fourth installment, Origin, the novel is told from the dual POV’s of Katy and Daemon. Kathy is trapped at a DOD facility. Being poked and prodded, she is forced to fight others like herself to prove her strength. Although Katy could never hurt a fly, She has to do everything in order to survive, even if that means taking a life.                                                                                                                                                                                           Daemon is determined to get Katy out of her prison. With a little help from both inside and outside resources, the two escape the facility. But their freedom is short lived when one of their own turns them over to the DOD. Tired of being on the run, Daemon decides that it was time for the world to meet the Luxen  and for them to see just what the government was keeping from the public.
13644055In the final installment, Opposition, the war between the Luxen and humans have begun. The Luxen want to take over Earth, making it their new home. DOD wants to use weapons that will not only take out Luxen, but humans as well. Katy and Daemon know that the Luxen need to be stop, but this is not the way. So they go off in hopes of gaining help from the last people they would ever expect to turn to: the Arum.                                                                                                                                                       This fight won’t be easy. Katy has already lost so much and when she is hit with another devastating loss, it completely tears her open. Will Katy be able to come back from this loss? Can Daemon and Katy defeat the invading Luxen and save Earth. Or will this be the end of them both?

Going in to this series, I was a bit hesitant because I’m not a big fan of aliens. I also heard so many mixed reviews about the series; some people loved it, some hated it, so that wasn’t much help either. I decided to just jump right into it, and I ended up pretty much LOVING this series.
I finished Obsidian in just a few hours and was completely hooked. Katy is hilarious. I loved reading from her POV. First off, she’s a book blogger. She is a lover of books and a fellow fangirl, what’s not to like? Second, she is sassy. You think she would be a stand-by-the-sidelines kind of girl, but no, she’s not. Everytime Daemon gets on her about one of her habits, she has some type of sassy comeback that puts him in his place.
So, I did not like Daemon in this book. I don’t care how hot you think you are, Katy should be spoken to in that way. I’m surprised she even put up with some of his nonsense. Overall, it was an okay first book and couldn’t wait to pick up the second book.
Going into Onyx, I still was Daemon-hating. What I hated more, was the addition of a new male character, leading to what could possibly be a love triangle. OK, NO THANKS! I would have been perfectly fine with the addition of Blake, but him trying to get Katy’s attention was a bit pathetic. It’s obvious she’s going to choose Daemon! Also, I kind of thought Blake was a total poser. I knew he could not be trusted.
I was annoyed with the back and forth between guys. KATY, THERE’S NOT COMPETITION! You’re going to choose Daemon. The only part I really liked about this book was the ending. Katy went all badass-hybrid on everyone. YES! Also, were left with so many questions after Dawson’s return, so of course I started the third book ASAP!
Opal, Opal completely ripped me to pieces. It’s probably my favorite book in this series. This is where the Daemon-loving started. He was just so caring and sweet and AWESOME! They made a great team.                                                                                                                                                         Majority of this book is centered around a lot of planning as the group decides how to go about breaking into DOD to get Bethany. I think Katy really found her voice in this book because she wouldn’t back down when Daemon told her he wanted her to stay behind. But that ending, THAT ENDING! I was not expecting it. I was so SHOCKED, didn’t even see that coming. They were so close…I couldn’t pick up the fourth book, I needed a breather.
Origin probably has to most action off all the books. Daemon comes up with a plan to let DOD take him in so he can help Katy escape. Let me just say that DOD is crazy. The experiments they were performing were so wrong and selfish. I’m surprised hadn’t stopped them sooner.                                                                                                                         The action scenes in this book was great! Daemon was kicking ass and taking numbers. But this also has a shocking betrayal. I don’t understand how all this time this person just pretended to really care to for Daemon and his family. I was at a loss for words. Then that ending, Luxens coming to take over the world…prepare yourself!
Ahh, the finale. I was pissed off at the beginning of Opposition. Daemon changed and he was no longer his loving self and although there was a reason behind his behavior, I still did not like it.                                                                                                                                             My heart went out to Katy in this book. Through out this series, Katy has faced so much loss. Her life completely changed just because of one night. I think that she was a strong female protagonist. I was waiting for her to break down, especially at the ending, but she just kept moving forward. I really liked the ending of this book and there were lots of HAPPY TEARS!
Overall, I would highly recommend this series for those looking for something fun and action packed. The beginning of this series is a little bit shaky because I just really wanted to slap Daemon, many times, but the characters really grow through out this series and become stronger with every obstacle they overcome. I can’t wait to read this series again from Daemon’s POV in Oblivion and experience all the feels all over again!

I'm Ari, a local NYC bibliophile and a forever daydreamer. You can usually find me with my nose buried in a book and my head up in the clouds. I am also a coffee addict and a chocolate connoisseur. I fell in love with the romance genre about three years ago and I haven't been able to stop reading about happily-ever-afters, which is ironic because I'm a bit of a cynical romantic in real life, haha. I hope you all enjoy my blog and fangirling with me about all the smutty reads!
