College. A time for exploration. A time for going off on our own and finding one’s passion.
Daniella (Ellie) Martowski has one goal: to be become a journalist. She is ready to dig up the next scandal and make a name for herself. She wants to make a difference, create change. After being assigned to write a piece on the star quarterback, she uncovers one hell of a story, but is she willing to put her career on the line just for a story, before it even started?
Grant Landry is the star quarterback and a total hottie. He’s the Big Man on Campus! Everyone wants a piece of him and that includes Ellie, the journalist who will do anything for a story. But when Grant finds himself attractive to Ellie, he finds himself stuck between a rock and a hard place, having to choose between being the guy everyone thinks he is and the guy who he really wants to be.
Devon Connors is fierce. She knows what she wants and she goes after it. She is always prepared, plans out each move, total perfectionist. What she didn’t bargain for? Falling for Charlie Keesan. They are total opposites, but Devon can’t seem to get Charlie off her mind and that may not be such a bad thing.
Charlie Keesan is a pre-med student with an abundance of quirky t-shirts. He’s a nice guy. But this nice guy wants to shed his geekish ways in order to get Devon Connors to notice him. But when he trades his glasses for contacts and ditches the quirky t-shirts, he starts to get more attention than he bargains for.
The first semester can be rough…but add in a scandal and a dash romance and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.
I was in the mood for some new adult because I could feel the reading slump coming on and I needed to get out of it, FAST! The title of this novel was one of the main reasons why I chose to pick up this book. Novels about freshman year are usually funny as character try to find their way in a new environment. Also, the cover looked like it could be cute and steamy. While it was cute and steamy, it was so much more than that, but I’ll get to that in a second.
I did have a problem with the writing in the beginning because it was a bit confusing since there were so many characters and plot lines. I sometimes found myself having to go back to the beginning of the chapter to see which character’s POV we were reading from. But once I got accustom to this layout, it was easier to follow the story. I did feel though that it would have been better if the book only focused on one couple’s plot line as the main plot. It would have allowed for a bit more story development.
Another thing I didn’t understand was why there were chapter breaks when there was no change in POV. For example, we would be reading Charlie’s POV and then the scene would stop and when the scene continued, it would still be told from Charlie’s POV. Another thing was why was the date and time included at the beginning of each chapter? I think that should have been removed because it didn’t really play a role throughout the story.
Ahh, the characters…I really liked them!
First off, Ellie. I liked Ellie. She was relatable. She came to college with this plan to be this big shot journalist and had such determination. She was witty with her comebacks and I liked that she had her imperfections. What I didn’t like about her was how she went back and forth between Grant and Tanner. I didn’t understand why the possibility of a love triangle was introduce in the first place. Although Tanner’s character plays an important role in helping to develop the plot, especially for the sequel, I think Ellie should have kept her relationship with Tanner strictly platonic.
Grant was not your typical hot jock. Throughout the novel, he was facing an internal struggle of having to decide who he should be: the guy everyone wants him to be or being who he really wants to be.  I was actually surprised by his character and the decisions he made. I thought that he would take your typical route and give into the pressure. It will be interesting to see how he handles the events that occur at the end of this book in the next book.
So Devon is a character you are either going to love or hate. I didn’t particularly like her at first. She thinks she’s a princess and everything she wants should be handed to her. She’s all about her appearance and reputation. She also thinks that she is better than pretty much everyone. But, I think that she had some great character development as she became more humbled as the story progressed. Her back and forth with Charlie was adorable and I’m glad she let down her walls and gave him a chance.
Time for Charlie! I ADORE Charlie. He is a geek who wants to change and get the girl. A total underdog! Although he does get a complete makeover, I was happy to have him back to himself by the end of this book. One thing I didn’t see coming was Charlie’s secret. I was so SHOCKED! I want to see more Charlie in the next book!
Like I said before, my only major issue was with the writing. The introduction of each character could have been better and I don’t think it was necessary to have chapter breaks, especially when the POV did not change.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was funny and sweet and I can’t wait to see how the events at the end of this book play out in the second book. I also can’t wait to see how the relationships develop in the next book, especially Ellie and Grant’s relationship since things are about to get crazy for these two! Highly recommend checking out this novel!

I'm Ari, a local NYC bibliophile and a forever daydreamer. You can usually find me with my nose buried in a book and my head up in the clouds. I am also a coffee addict and a chocolate connoisseur. I fell in love with the romance genre about three years ago and I haven't been able to stop reading about happily-ever-afters, which is ironic because I'm a bit of a cynical romantic in real life, haha. I hope you all enjoy my blog and fangirling with me about all the smutty reads!
