“Love is complicated, and in its best form, it’s unspoken. It show in the things we do, not what we say.”- Lila, Love Unspoken
Title: Love Unspoken
Author: Lisa DeJong
Series: Flawed Love
Publication Date: October 19, 2015
It’s been six months since she last saw Blake Stone. Six months since he walked out the door, shattering her heart and leaving her broken.
But Lila Fields is ready to start picking up the pieces. Throwing herself into her work, she finally feels like things are looking up. She also finds herself falling for Pierce Stanley, the guy who has been there to help her pick up the pieces. Finally thinking she’s ready to another go at love, she opens her heart to Pierce. Everything seems perfect…until Blake comes walking back in, leaving Lila to decide who to choose: the guy whose always been there for her or the guy who could walk away again at any moment.
Love Unspoken was one of my most anticipated releases for 2015. After reading Lies Unspoken and being left a complete mess, I NEEDED to read Love Unspoken to find out how this mess of a love triangle ends. Since this is the second book in the Flawed Love series, there will be spoilers for the first book, so if you haven’t read that yet, go read it, NOW!
So like I said before, the cliffhanger ending of Lies Unspoken left me a complete mess. Everything was going great, my ship was sailing (#TeamBlake), I was happy dancing, and then it happened…my ship was under attack! Blake leaving was such a complete shock, I didn’t even see it coming and I couldn’t even comprehend what was going on.
In the sequel, Lila is trying to put herself back together and she throws herself into the design project that she has been working on with Pierce. I personally never liked Pierce. I think he was just a little bit stiff personality-wise and I didn’t think that he and Lila were a great match. He was safe. Lila is too much of a free spirit to play it safe. I did like that he was always there for her. He was a great friend when she needed him and he said all the right things, but again, he’s safe. I pretty much spent the first one-third of this book boycotting #TeamPierce. But then Blake walks in and I was on cloud 9!
Can I just say that Blake definitely redeemed himself in this book. He was such an jerk in the first book and I know what you’re all thinking, why are you #TeamBlake if he’s jerk? Because my friends, the reasons for why he is such a jerk were what made me love his character. He blamed himself for his wife’s suicide. Everyone blamed him. That is a hard thing to go through, especially when you don’t have someone in your corner. There are also other secrets that are revealed in this book regarding Blake wife and those too are more reasons for why I love him. He loves on such a deep level, so when he does take that plunge, he’s ALL IN. He had to do a lot of soul searching before he found his way back to Lila, but the point is that he did.
Let’s talk about Lila. I hated her during the first one-third of the book, but again, that relates back to the Pierce situation. Honestly, I think Lila handled things pretty well, all things considered. She came to Chicago after having her heart broken, so to get her heart broken again should have left her running back home. But she pulled it together and she pushed forward. I also liked that when it came down to her choosing, she didn’t spend the entire book stringing both guys along. She was straight-forward with Pierce and told him how she felt and she took another chance on Blake, which ended with her finding her happy ending.
Although this new adult book is filled with your typical clichés and nuisances, I still LOVED IT. There are just so many quotes in this book that just give me ALL THE FEELS and I just can’t get enough of Lisa’s writing. With that being said, if hate you triangles and cliché endings make your blood boil, then this series is not for you. The ending was hilarious. It leaves on a bit of a cliffhanger so there is a possibility that this story may not be over just yet, and if this is true, I can’t wait to read the book in this series!
