Sometimes the one you were meant to be with…
Marisol Lorenzo landed her dream job as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and is working on the case that could make her career; now she’s determined to put away the most dangerous drug lord in the country. But his incarceration has opened up a lethal turf war among his lieutenants. Their enforcers are out hunting their enemies, and anyone who gets in their way. When one of them sets his sights on Marisol, she turns to a man she grew up with and has wanted for years—a member of the FBI’s elite Hostage Rescue Team. Even though she thinks he’ll break her heart when he leaves town, it’s a risk she’s willing to take.
Has been right in front of you all along.
Special Agent Ethan Cruz is back home in Miami with his team to take down a dangerous fugitive linked to the case Marisol is working on. He’s focused on his job and not looking for a relationship, until she captures his attention so completely that he’s consumed with the need to make her his. Though he knows he should keep his distance, the explosive attraction sizzling between them makes it impossible. He’s always had a soft spot for her but now his feelings are so intense he can’t shut them off. What starts off as desire quickly runs deeper, becoming something more powerful than he’s ever known. And when Marisol winds up in the crosshairs of the most lethal enforcer of all, he’ll put everything on the line to save her.
I don’t usually read many adult books, but the Hostage Rescue Team series is HANDS-DOWN my favorite adult series. Don’t let the cover fool you, THIS IS NOT ANOTHER ROMANCE BOOK! NO, FAR FROM IT! This is a action packed military novel filled with suspense, romance, and heart stopping twists!
The Hostage Rescue follows group of guys that are a part of the hostage rescue team division for the FBI. They help rescue people that have been taken hostage by high-level criminals. Each book follows a different couple with a new villain and a whole new problem. There will be NO SPOILERS for the previous books in this review so feel free to read on!
Exposed is the sixth book in this series and it follows the story of Special Agent Ethan Cruz and Marisol Lorenzo. Cruz and the rest of the HRT squad head to Miami, Cruz’s hometown, to take down a merciless enforcer that leaves his victims begging for their end. Coincidentally, Marisol is working on a similar case that  is linked to HRT case. Cruz and Marisol are childhood friends and although they both have feelings for each, neither one has ever acted on them. But when Marisol becomes the enforcers new target, Cruz will have to risk everything to save her.
This book is my new FAVORITE book in this series. Cross stepped it up and literally pulled out the big guns for this one.
I have always loved Cross’s characters for this series. They are so well-developed and they have so many layers to their personality, especially the villains.
Special Agent Cruz: I completely adore Cruz. He is like a big teddy bear who has so much love for his friends and family. He is also down for the count and also looks out for the other other guys on his squad.
Marisol: Sol is such a strong and independent character. Even after receiving multiple death threats, she still manages to bring the bad guys to justice. While she is strong and independent, she is also guarded and doesn’t really open up to anyone so when she finally did let her walls down, it was both a hilarious and sweet moment.
Miguel Bautista: I don’t even know how to go about explaining Bautista. He has to be the BEST villain in this series and the reason why is because he is so different from past villains. First off, his past, *sob*. Another thing is that he has a LOVE INTEREST! This has NEVER happened! Seeing him care for another person made it easier for me to sympathize with him. I couldn’t hate him. I didn’t want him to die like I did with the others. I was actually pulling for him to make it out on top because underneath it all he is actually a decent guy (LAYERS!).
Two words that describe the romance in this series are: SEXUAL TENSION! There is no insta-love in this series because our guy and girl usually have a history and have some sort of relationship beforehand, but neither party ever acts on their feelings for one another. I usually spend majority of the time just screaming:
When things finally happen, boy do they happen. I’m just going to leave it at that!
These books always manage to raise by blood pressure because I can NEVER predict what is about to happen and it was no different for this book. The big finale left me at the edge of my seat. There were two things I was not expecting in this book. First, a character from a previous book returns in this book and they shake things up BIG TIME. There was also a CLIFF HANGER! This has NEVER happened. There are unanswered questions and I really hope that this story continues on into the next book because I need answers.
I HIGHLY recommend this series! Pick it up and devour it! They are so good and addictive and I just can’t get ENOUGH!

I'm Ari, a local NYC bibliophile and a forever daydreamer. You can usually find me with my nose buried in a book and my head up in the clouds. I am also a coffee addict and a chocolate connoisseur. I fell in love with the romance genre about three years ago and I haven't been able to stop reading about happily-ever-afters, which is ironic because I'm a bit of a cynical romantic in real life, haha. I hope you all enjoy my blog and fangirling with me about all the smutty reads!
