-Reading Order-

Sarai was only fourteen when her mother uprooted her to live in Mexico with a notorious drug lord. Over time she forgot what it was like to live a normal life, but she never let go of her hope to escape the compound where she has been held for the past nine years.

Victor is a cold-blooded assassin who, like Sarai, has known only death and violence since he was a young boy. When Victor arrives at the compound to collect details and payment for a hit, Sarai sees him as her only opportunity for escape. But things don’t go as planned and instead of finding transport back to Tucson, she finds herself free from one dangerous man and caught in the clutches of another.

While on the run, Victor strays from his primal nature as he succumbs to his conscience and resolves to help Sarai. As they grow closer, he finds himself willing to risk everything to keep her alive; even his relationship with his devoted brother and liaison, Niklas, who now like everyone else wants Sarai dead.

As Victor and Sarai slowly build a trust, the differences between them seem to lessen, and an unlikely attraction intensifies. But Victor’s brutal skills and experience may not be enough in the end to save her, as the power she unknowingly holds over him may ultimately be what gets her killed.

This is their story…

In the Company of Killers is a dark and thrilling series that I’ve been meaning to pick up for a while now. I knew what I was getting myself into when I started this series, but I was still not prepared for this! This series is NOT for the faint of heart! Let’s get this FANGIRL review started!1For the last nine years, Sarai has been held captive by a Mexican drug lord. Forced to spend her days as a sex slave, Sarai never loses hope that one day she will find a way to escape this hell hole and claim her life back as her own.Opportunity strikes when Victor, a cold-blooded assassin, comes to make a deal with Sarai’s keeper, Javier. Making her escape, Sarai hopes that Victor can somehow help her make it back to the States. But things don’t go according to plan and Sarai realizes that if she wants her life back, she is going to have to fight for it, maybe even kill for it.2

The first book in this series starts off with a BANG! Right from the first page we are thrown into the ugly world of drugs, sex slavery, and cold blooded assassins! NO ONE IS SAFE! You are constantly kept on your toes with plot twist after plot twist. The writing is RAW, fast-paced and so descriptive. I could NOT put this book down because I needed to know what was going to happen next.

Sarai has been forced to live in this world for the past nine years and while many of the other girls in the compound have lost hope, she somehow manages to hold on to hers. Sarai is STRONG-WILLED, intelligent, a KILLER in the MAKING! She has all the qualities I love to see in my female MCs. I underestimated her strength in the beginning and she continued to surprise me as she never backed down when the going got tough, and trust me, things got TOUGH!

Victor, shoots first and ask questions later. He is NOT the knight in shining armor come to save Sarai from this twist world. He is detached and cold, yet Sarai convinces him to help her. Neither one can trust the other, yet somehow, they manage to work together in order to take down a common enemy. These two make quite the team and this is the start of a beautiful friendship.3Although there is a romance in this book, it does not start to develop until much later into the story and while I love a good romance, it’s not the main focus for this first book. This book is about SURVIVAL and taking back one’s life after they have lost it all. I’m excited to see how this relationship grows throughout the series. I pretty sure this dynamic duo will be a force to reckon with and anyone who crosses their path will end up six feet under.

I HIGHLY recommend checking out this series if you are into dark, action-packed thrillers that keep you on your toes. You will never be bored as something new is always going down with every turn of the page. I’ve already read the next two books in this series and I am officially OBSESSED with this series and it’s disturbing cast of characters. I can’t wait to dive into the fourth book!

I'm Ari, a local NYC bibliophile and a forever daydreamer. You can usually find me with my nose buried in a book and my head up in the clouds. I am also a coffee addict and a chocolate connoisseur. I fell in love with the romance genre about three years ago and I haven't been able to stop reading about happily-ever-afters, which is ironic because I'm a bit of a cynical romantic in real life, haha. I hope you all enjoy my blog and fangirling with me about all the smutty reads!
