The Black Wolf by J.A. Redmerski

“He should be careful; wolves are protective, territorial— but also cannibalistic. Should your brother show weakness, step into a snare trap, he will be torn apart by the other wolves. And then you will become the alpha.”- Francesca, The Black Wolf

Synopsis via Goodreads: Since devastating secrets were uncovered by Nora Kessler, Niklas Fleischer and Victor Faust have been divided as business partners and brothers. But ultimately Niklas is persuaded to lead a mission to Italy, and he sees it as an opportunity to set in motion forgiveness—or retribution—for his brother’s betrayal.

The mission: play the role of a wealthy German investor and kidnap a beautiful, notorious madam named Francesca Moretti. No stranger to these types of roles, Niklas is the best man for the job, but this time the risks will be much greater as he will not be doing it alone. Izabel Seyfried, still fresh out of a life of imprisonment and sex slavery, could be negatively affected by the things she will see in Moretti’s mansion, and Niklas must keep her in line so she does not blow their cover and get them killed.

But Niklas isn’t the only one who must play a role—Nora takes on the humiliating task of playing Niklas’s slave, and Izabel must play the role of his lover.

On one hand, Niklas couldn’t be enjoying himself more. On the other hand, the emotions that continue to rage inside of him may be too much for him to control, and it may be Niklas—not Izabel—who needs to be kept in line. He cannot forget what Victor has done, and this mission may just be the beginning of his downward spiral.

Can the blood bond that Niklas and Victor share as brothers be stronger than resentment? Or will vengeance dig the blade so deep that their bond be eternally severed?

End of book reaction-

The fifth installment to  the In the Company of Killer series was a GAME CHANGER! The script was flipped, the world was turned upside down and everything I knew had changed. I had so many emotions while reading book and I was a mess by the end. I don’t know what Redmerski is trying to do to my faves but I am NOT liking it ONE BIT! Let’s get this review (and maybe a bit of a rant) started.

Picking up right we left off, Victor’s crew has been divided after Victor admits to killing the only woman Niklas has ever loved. Knowing his brother won’t forgive easily, Victor hopes that an mission to Italy will help to lessen their tension. Niklas, Izzy, and Nora set off to Italy to kidnap Francesca Moretti, a well-known and ruthless madam. They will each have a role to play and if they want to make it through this mission alive, staying in character is crucial, even if it means having to do things that cross all boundaries.

Victor and Fredrik deal with troubles of their own after learning one of their own has betrayed them. The US government knows about Victor’s crew and offers him their help in getting him the one thing he wants most. But in order to get what he wants, Victor may have to sacrifice the one thing he loves most.

We FINALLY get to know more about the mysterious Niklas Fleischer and what made him the badass assassin he is today. I got to admit, he SURPRISED me! I did not initially like Niklas and found his character to be irrelevant. How wrong I was because he most certainly IS NOT! He is what I call a GAME CHANGER! His actions and reactions to what happens next will drive the plot of this series and it can either make or break this team. There is so much more to Niklas that I originally thought and even though he and Victor grew up at the same facility, he is not as cold-hearted as his half brother. He has the ability to love, but it’s the price that he’s not willing to pay.

Nora Kessler, you sly, sneaky bitch! I was beginning to like Nora, but I’ve come to learn that what you see is not what you get with Nora. She has such a good pokerface, it’s scary! I don’t know how I feel about her right now, but if she hurts Izzy, I WILL HATE HER! No one messes with Izzy!

The storyline is AMAZING in this installment because it is no longer just Victor and his crew, but now we have outside players, like the US government. Things just got very interesting because now the cat’s out of the bag and Victor and his crew are going to have more people coming after them. Trouble is definitely on the horizon and no one is safe, not even a man like Victor Fraust.

Now let me RAGE for a minute. This book brought about the possibility of a love triangle…

I need there to NOT be a love triangle. The OTP in this book has already been established and they are perfect for each other. Stop trying to sink my damn ship authors, especially since they haven’t even set sail yet! Don’t fuck this up Victor!

I literally have CHILLS thinking about the next book in this series. Honestly, I think I may need EMT on standby for this one. I will probably end up bawling because Izzy is going to be coming face to face with her past and she will have to make an decision that is forever going to change her life. I just want my faves to make it out alive, & I want more Fredrik. More, JUST MORE!

I'm Ari, a local NYC bibliophile and a forever daydreamer. You can usually find me with my nose buried in a book and my head up in the clouds. I am also a coffee addict and a chocolate connoisseur. I fell in love with the romance genre about three years ago and I haven't been able to stop reading about happily-ever-afters, which is ironic because I'm a bit of a cynical romantic in real life, haha. I hope you all enjoy my blog and fangirling with me about all the smutty reads!

    1. This actually isn’t a paranormal romance. Not really a romance either…more along the lines of psychological thriller/suspense. It can get a bit graphic and it deals with a number of dark themes. If that sounds like something you would read, I would definitely check it out!
