Synopsis via Goodreads: What happens on the road stays on the road in the latest New Adult novel from the author of Loud Is How I Love You.

Twenty-one-year-old Sonia Grant, a business major, has big plans for a career in the music industry. So when she’s offered the job of tour manager for her best friend’s band, she jumps at the chance for some real life experience. When her number one crush, bassist Cole McCormack, jumps her the first night on tour, she hopes she’s in for three weeks of some hot backstage action, too. But Cole turns out to have more up his sleeve than she or anyone realized.

Nobody knows that Cole is on the road to party like a rock star one last time before quitting his dream to take a more practical job and settle down. What he hadn’t planned was to fall in love with a girl he believes is out of his league. Will Cole play out the rock star fantasy he thinks Sonia wants from him, or tell her the truth and take the chance that she’ll either break his heart or make an even bigger dream come true?

It’s the summer of 1995 and the band Stars on the Floor is set to go on tour. With a van full of equipment and hearts filled with hopes and dreams, this band is hoping to take take the stage, steal hearts and earn a record deal. Cole McCormack has got the stealing hearts part down pat as girls from every city falls head over heels for the amazing bass player with killer moves. Sonia Grant is not immune to his charm and after a quick make out session after one of their shows she is determined to have her way with Cole. But Cole has a secret. He will have to make a decision that will not only affect his future in the band, but also his future with Sonia. Will this rock and roll romance to an end before things even started?

I read Brown’s debut, Loud is How I Love You, at the beginning of the year and while I didn’t completely love it, I was still interested to see what was in store for the secondary characters in this series. Fortunately for me, Stay Until You Break was a much more enjoyable read. Actually, scratch that. I LOVE THIS BOOK. TO PIECES! Right from the very first line, I was HOOKED. The first line is probably one of my favorite openers I have ever read in a book. It also doesn’t hurt that this book includes two of my favorite things: a band and road trip shenanigans.

I liked the writing in this book a lot better than the previous installment because it had a better flow. In the previous book, there were breaks in the dialogue where the MC would actually speak directly to the reader and I personally didn’t like that. It just felt like extra information that I could’ve done without. I also liked the pacing of the romance, slow and steady and the fact that it wasn’t the complete focus of this book. The road trip shenanigans and watching the band try to reach their dreams was great entertainment. I was living vicariously through these characters because I want to go on a cross-country road trip SO FREAKIN’ BAD!

While I tolerated the couple in the previous book, I absolutely adore Sonia and Cole. The back and forth banter between these two was hilarious and the romance was HOT AND HEAVY! I connected with Sonia and Cole’s character more than I did with our previous couple, especially since they have a lot more going on and there is more at stake. First off, Cole is BAE. I may be bias because I have a bit of obsession with bass players, but I WANT HIM!

On the outside, he may seem like an easy-going guy, but on the inside, he’s struggling because he doesn’t want to give up the band, but he also knows that he needs to get a steady job to help his family. He also doesn’t believe that he is good enough for Sonia because of his past and his run in with the law. He hasn’t had the best life, but he’s working everyday to make up for his past mistakes.

Sonia on the other hand is a bit of rebel who went against her mother’s wishes and decided to pave her own way in the music industry. I really liked Sonia. I love her blunt, give-it-to-me-straight attitude. She’s a bit all over the place at times, but she really just wants the help the band reach stardom. She was a great match for Cole because she believed in him and doesn’t let him quit on his dream or the band. Despite their differences, these two made a great pair.

Stay Until We Break was a fun, sexy, and highly entertaining book that made me want to drive across the country with the windows down and the radio turned up loud. If you love books about bands with road trip shenanigans, then I HIGHLY recommend you pick this book up. Now I am waiting patiently for Joey’s story because I need the Joey and Claire ship to sail. Plus, I need more band shenanigans in my life!

I'm Ari, a local NYC bibliophile and a forever daydreamer. You can usually find me with my nose buried in a book and my head up in the clouds. I am also a coffee addict and a chocolate connoisseur. I fell in love with the romance genre about three years ago and I haven't been able to stop reading about happily-ever-afters, which is ironic because I'm a bit of a cynical romantic in real life, haha. I hope you all enjoy my blog and fangirling with me about all the smutty reads!
