Synopsis via Goodreads: With his college graduation gown expertly pitched into the trash, Justin Akron is ready for the road trip he planned with his best friend Landry— and ready for one last summer of escape from his mother’s controlling grip. Climbing into the Winnebago his father left him, they set out across America in search of the sites his father had captured through the lens of his Nikon.

As an aspiring photographer, Justin can think of no better way to honor his father’s memory than to scatter his ashes at the sites he held sacred. And there’s no one Justin would rather share the experience with more than Landry.

But Justin knows he can’t escape forever. Eventually he’ll have to return home and join his mother’s Senate campaign. Nor can he escape the truth of who he is, and the fact that he’s in love with his out-and-proud travel companion.

Admitting what he wants could hurt his mother’s conservative political career. But with every click of his shutter and every sprinkle of ash, Justin can’t resist Landry’s pull. And when the truth comes into focus, neither is prepared for the secrets the other is hiding.

Megan Erickson has been on my NA radar for a while now, though, I never got around to reading any of her books. But when I received an ARC for the fourth book in the In Focus series, I knew it was the perfect time for another binge-read. While Trust the Focus may be my first Megan Erickson book, it MOST DEFINITELY won’t be my last!

Trust the Focus follows the story of Justin Akron, a recent college graduate who is about to go on a cross-country road trip with his best friend. With his father’s ashes in tow and the keys to his father’s RV, Sally, Justin plans to honor his memory by scattering his remains at his father’s favorite landmarks. The road trip is also a chance for Justin to get away from his controlling mother and spent some quality time with his childhood best friend, Landry Jacobs. While Landry is out and proud about his sexuality, Justin has yet to admit that he has had feelings for Landry since they were in high school. But this road trip is about to change all that, and Justin may find himself revealing his feelings sooner than he had hoped.

Trust the Focus is a combination of two of my favorite things: BEST FRIEND TO LOVERS TROPE AND ROAD TRIPS! I absolutely love watching two characters who’ve had feelings for one another for years go from platonic to romantic. Justin has always had strong feelings for Landry, but a number of circumstances made it difficult for him to ever admit those feelings. But on this road trip, he comes clean and his confession forever changes things. Although going from friends to something more was not an easy and quick transition, I liked the fact that the dramatics were kept to a minimum. Our characters took their time to make sure that this was something they were both sure of and it was such a sweet moment when things finally fell into place for these two. Also, the road trip! I love everything about road trips and while on this trip Justin starts to become more comfortable with who he is and eventually stands up to his mother. He wants to pursue a career in photography and he always wants to be in a relationship with Landry and decides that he is going to go after them, with or without her approval.

This book is told from Justin’s POV and I admit I did not initially care too much for him. His hot and cold attitude kind of got on my nerves, but he ended up winning me over in the end. I absolutely adored Landry. He’s so funny and laid back and such a damn sweetheart, no wonder Justin loved him as much as he did. I loved the chemistry between these two and the ending was so sweet and just right for them.

Overall, Trust the Focus was a great start to a M/M romance series that could quite possibly become one of my faves. I enjoyed my first Megan Erickson book and I’m excited to continue this series and check out her other works. If your looking for a sweet and simple M/M romance, I totally recommend you checking this book out!

I'm Ari, a local NYC bibliophile and a forever daydreamer. You can usually find me with my nose buried in a book and my head up in the clouds. I am also a coffee addict and a chocolate connoisseur. I fell in love with the romance genre about three years ago and I haven't been able to stop reading about happily-ever-afters, which is ironic because I'm a bit of a cynical romantic in real life, haha. I hope you all enjoy my blog and fangirling with me about all the smutty reads!
