❝ I warmed up to you the day we met. I melted for you the second you kissed me.❞
Synopsis via Goodreads: Can you fall in love with someone you’ve never even met?
Hailey Taylor Emery has a hunch that her favorite client at Fetch—an anonymous virtual assistant service—is actually hockey star Matt Eriksson.
Although it’s against the rules for her to check his file, she’s 95% sure she spends at least part of each day texting with her lifelong crush and catering to his every need. Still nursing a wounded heart thanks to her recent breakup, Hailey is perfectly content with some harmless online flirting… until she has to meet her client. Face to face. Cue: utter panic.
Matt Eriksson is no stranger to heartbreak. He’s still not over the destruction of his marriage, and it sucks to be the only guy on the team who knows the truth—that hockey and long-term relationships are a toxic mix. He barely sees his kids, and dealing with his ex makes him feel insane. The only person in his life who seems to understand is someone who won’t show her pretty face.
But it’s nothing that a pair of fourth row hockey seats can’t fix. Hailey can’t resist the offer. Matt can’t resist Hailey. Good thing he doesn’t have to. Fire up the kiss cam!
The dynamic duo that is Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen are back at it again to deliver a hilariously sweet and sexy hockey romance that will have you swooning until the very last page. I can always count on this author duo to deliver and it really shouldn’t come as a surprise that I ended up loving Stay as much as I did.
Stay is the second installment in the WAGs series and follows the story of Matthew Eriksson and Hailey Taylor Emery. Matt is a famous hockey player and a newly divorcee who is struggling to balance life on the road and spending time with his twin girls. It hasn’t been easy and it doesn’t help that his ex-wife is constantly questioning his parenting skills, but he does the best that he can. But one can always use an extra helping hand and that’s where Hailey comes in. She is the co-owner of Fetch, a company that provides on-the-call service to get you whatever you need, when you need it. They’ve been in communication for some time now and Hailey has a hunch that the man behind the emails in none other than her favorite hockey. But when the man behind the screen is determined to put a face to her name, will Hailey take the chance at finding out if her hunch is true, or will her own insecurities keep her from finding out the truth.
Stay was one of my most anticipated releases for this month and to be honest, I didn’t even know what this book going to be about other than this was Eriksson’s story since I didn’t read the synopsis beforehand, but I was excited for it anyway. I was hooked right from the first page and I could not stop laughing. I read majority of this book during my daily commute so I definitely got some side-eye for my constant giggling. The thing I adored the most about Stay was its epic romance. Hailey and Matt’s relationship is one that starts out online and then moves into reality when they finally meet face-to-face and it made me realize that I need to read more romances that start out online. I loved the back-and-forth banter and that there was already an established connection which made for quite a bit of sexual tension between the pair. Both Hailey and Matt are also recent divorcees who didn’t have much experience when it came to dating since they both married so young and I enjoyed seeing these two test the waters and put themselves out there again. It wasn’t easy for either of them, but the leap proved to be worth it the end.
Hailey is a legit boss lady who works hard to keep her company running. She didn’t come from much, but made something of herself and she’s damn proud of all she has accomplished. I really liked that she and her ex-husband were able to work together in such a civil manner even after their divorce and that they supported one another no matter what. Matt on the other hand doesn’t have the best relationship with his ex and I totally wanted to go off on her for constantly putting Matt down. Matt is a good guy who loves his twin daughters dearly and tries his best to be involved in their lives as much as possible. Hockey keeps him away for weeks at a time, but he still makes time for them and you can’t help but love a man like that.
One of the best things about this book are the WAGs. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THE WAG GALS! These women are so supportive of each other and their men and I totally want to be a part of this inner circle. It doesn’t matter what time it is, if one of their own is in need of a shoulder to cry on, all the WAG gals will do whatever it takes to cheer that person up. They are friendship goals and I hope we see more of them in the next book.
Stay was yet another amazing read by my favorite author duo and I’m so excited to know that won’t be the last book I will read co-written by these two. I know it may be a while until we get another Sarina and Elle book, but I’m totally fine with waiting it out because I know it will be worth it!
