Synopsis via Goodreads: Thea Landry has always known her place in modern-day society. It’s somewhere just above the trash can her mother dumped her in as a newborn but below the class where much comes easy. With her tattered shoes and bargain-bin clothes, her life has never been full of glamour.
So when a rich and charismatic man takes interest, she doesn’t fool herself into thinking their encounter is anything more than a one-night stand. Months later, she’s kicking herself for not getting his phone number. Or his last name. She’s given up hope of seeing him ever again.
Until one day, years later, Logan Kendrick waltzes into her life once more and turns everything she’s built upside down. This time around, she won’t make the same mistake. She’s going to fight to keep him in her life—not for herself.
But for their daughter.
I read my first Devney Perry book, The Birthday List, back in April and I knew that I needed to get my hands on another book by Perry soon so I was very excited when I heard about her newest series and was ready to dive into the first book. I didn’t have a clue what Tattered would be about, I just hoped it would live up to The Birthday List.
When Logan Kendrick took a seat at Thea Landry’s bar six years ago, they never thought their connection would be one that would last for more than one night. Six years later, Thea and Logan are once again meeting in a bar, but this time there is something else connecting them—their daughter. Together, Thea and Logan will have to navigate co-parenting while also trying to figure out their feelings for one another and whether or not that one night six years ago can become something more.
The premise for Tattered is one that I enjoy reading because any romances involving children is a plus for me. I’m such a sucker for the surprise pregnancy trope too because I like seeing characters try to co-parents but at the same time, they are also falling for one another and it’s fun to see how things play out. I will say that I feel like this trope can be over-dramatized at times, but Devney Perry did a good job at keeping it to a minimum. I also think I’ve found my new go-to author for small town romances! Devney Perry just has a knack for writing small town romance that make me just want to hop on a plane and go stay in those towns for a few months.
Thea is such a strong and relatable heroine and I connected instantly with her. She didn’t have the best childhood, but she’s determined to give her daughter the best life, even if that means having to put her own desires to the side. I really liked that she held her own and didn’t compromise on anything that would affect her daughter’s happiness. Thea is truly mama goals! I went in thinking that Logan would’ve been an entitled asshole, but holy shit was I wrong. Logan is such a gentleman and seeing him work so hard to earn Charlie’s affection made my heart melt. It was so cute and I wanted to cry over their relationship!! I also like the fact that he never pushed Thea to make decisions that would uproot her life. He’s such a down to earth guy and you will instantly fall for him just like Thea did. And we can’t forget about the star of this book, Charlie. I adore romances with kids and Charlie was so cute. I loved her personality and how she wasn’t afraid to tell it like it is. She’s a girl who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to march to the beat of her own drum.
One thing that didn’t work for me in this book was the development of the romance. While I did feel the chemistry between Logan and Thea, I wished that they would’ve put the brakes on things and slowed their relationship down a bit. I mean, they only knew each other for one night yet the day they meet again they’re already falling all over each other??? I would’ve rather a slower build up instead of going straight into full on relationship mode. The second thing that didn’t work for me was the random suspense/conflict that was thrown in at the end of the book. I guess it was meant to add to the story, but to be honest it felt out of place and the story would’ve been better off without it.
Despite those minor hiccups, I still enjoyed Tattered and I think it was a decent start to a new series. I’m super anxious to get my hand on the next book in this series because I already ship our next couple and I need to know how things work out between them. If you enjoy small town romances then I definitely recommend giving this book a read!
I’ve never read this author. I’m adding her to my list. Maybe I’ll start with this one. It sounds cute even though the romance wasn’t quite what you wanted.

This is a new to me author, but this sounds like a good read. The guy sounds like a dreamboat. But damn, that romance does move really fast.
