Synopsis via Goodreads: Willa Doon has always been shy. Her quiet demeanor was something she’s always embraced. That is, until Jackson Page moves to town. The one man she desperately wants to take notice struggles to remember her name.
Year after year, Willa stands by, watching as the bartender slash playboy drowns his demons in beer and sex. Then one night, he shows up at her door, suddenly aware that the girl he’s seen around Lark Cove is now a beautiful woman.
Except what he doesn’t remember is that this visit isn’t his first. They spent a night together once before. A night he’s forgotten, thanks to a bottle of tequila.
A night that crushed a timid girl’s heart, and set a broken man on the path to heal them both.
Devney Perry is slowly but surely becoming one of my go-to authors for small town romances and I couldn’t wait until her latest release, Timid, landed on my eReader. I had already started shipping the couple for this book and I was dying to know what would come about in this romance between a timid girl and a broken man.
Willa Doon has had her heart set on Jackson Page ever since he moved to Lark Cove. But as the years go by, Jackson never seemed to notice her and Willa doesn’t have the courage to make a move. That is until one night when Willa finds herself alone with Jackson and her wish finally comes true when he gives her a goodnight kiss on her doorstep. But when Jackson doesn’t remember the events of that night, Willa’s heart is crushed and she will have to decide whether or not it’s finally time for her to move on from Jackson Page.
I hoped that Devney Perry would deliver with Willa and Jackson’s story and sure enough, I was not disappointed! I loved being back in Lark Cove with its small town charm and good-natured people. This cast of secondary characters are the best, especially Hazel who is like everyone’s unofficial grandma and she’s always lending an ear to anyone who needs it. I also enjoyed being able to catch up with our couple from the previous book and will note that if you haven’t read Tattered yet, you might be spoiled for the ending in this book so I suggest reading that book first.
Willa Doon made this book for me! I adore her character to bits. She’s a genuine, good hearted woman who sees the best in people even when they can’t see it in themselves. Like, I don’t think it’s possible to hate a character like Willa because she’s just too pure. What I loved most about Willa was seeing her come out of her shell and fight for the love she deserved. Jackson definitely met his match because Willa was determined to show him that he is worthy of love despite thinking otherwise. If you read Tattered then you already have the backstory on Jackson’s rough childhood so we understand why he’s so hesitant to commit. There are a number of issues he has to work through but I really enjoyed seeing him build that confidence and realize that he is surrounded by people who love him, who are willing to fight for him even when he tries to push them away. The romance between Willa and Jackson is so darn cute. They’re such complete opposites but even so, they work so well together. These two are definitely one of my favorite couples for this year!
Timid was everything that I hoped it would be and I highly recommend reading the Lark Cove series if you enjoy small town romances. I’m impatiently awaiting the release of the next book in this series because I just can’t get enough of the people of Lark Cove and I’m curious to know more about our potential pairing in the next book.
