Binging the Backlist: Stroked by Meghan Quinn

BK

Welcome back to Binging the Backlist! This month I read Meghan Quinn’s sports romcom series, Stroked, and enjoyed it so much. If you’ve been following my blog for a while then you know Meghan Quinn is one of my favorite authors and I’ve been meaning to find the time to read some of her older releases. Now that she’s done with releasing new books for 2018 (thank god for that!), I finally have the time to go back and read one of Quinn’s series that has been sitting on my TBR for over a year now. Even though I didn’t have a clue what the Stroked series was about, the titles are freakin’ hilarious and knowing Quinn’s humor, I knew I would be in for a treat! Let’s get this review started!

This is the first sports romance series I’ve read where the heroes weren’t football, hockey, basketball or baseball players so I was loving the change up. To be honest, I don’t really care about the Olympics in real life but it was interesting to read about all the technical stuff and the training the guys had to do in order to get the gold. I really felt like I was standing by the poolside cheering these guys on!

Bellini Chambers is one of the most vilest characters I’ve ever read about and my blood literally boiled anytime I had to read from her POV. Her character was actually the reason why I wasn’t really a fan of the first book and was hesitant to even continue the series because I was not about to put up with her bullshit for a whole two more books. She’s just down right ignorant and thinks money can buy her out of any trouble she gets into. She’s spoiled and self-centered and just ugghhhh!! I don’t think there’s a decent bone in her body and I honestly wanna know why her parents thought it was cute to name her Bellini?!

One of my favorite things about this series is Hollis and Reese’s friendship! You know it’s gonna be a funny scene when these two are in the same room because they just go at each other like an old married couple. They may give each other shit but at the end of the day they love each other like family and have each others back no matter what.

Y’ALL. I was not at all prepared for the emotional train wreck that is Bodi Banks. I thought this book would be funny but it’s actually kind of heavy because of Bodi’s past. He has OCD and struggles with a lot of guilt as blames himself what happened during his childhood. He refuses to let anyone into his world because he’s scared of them seeing who he really is and it’s something he has to overcome during this book. I pretty much bawled like a baby while reading Bodi’s story so you might want to have tissues on hand with this one.

Ruby is hands down my favorite heroine in this series. She’s a ray of sunshine and you can’t help but smile when she shows up on the page. She’s just the sweetest little thing ever and I absolutely adore all her awkward ways. I love how she took her time with Bodi and never pushed him too much out of his comfort zone. She knew just what to say to help keep him calm and she’s just what Bodi needs in his world of monotone colors. Honestly Quinn couldn’t have paired Bodi up with a more perfect woman and I love these two together.

I thought my emotions were in the clear when I started the third book but apparently Quinn wasn’t done with fucking them just yet. Now the final book isn’t like tragic but I did still end up crying a lot, especially towards the end because Hollis and Melony’s romance is an emotional one since Melony has issues that she has to work through before she can take the next step with Hollis. You many need to stock up on more tissues for this one, lol.

So after I read Bodi’s book, I had declared him as my favorite hero for the series and seriously thought no one could top him. But Cristina and Deanna told me to hold off on my declaration until I read the final book and I was side-eyeing them because I really thought it couldn’t get better than Bodi…BUT BOY WAS I WRONG. Hollis Knightly came through and totally caught me off guard and had me in my feelings. “Dude has cock” was the first thing that Hollis said to Melony when he first met her and my mans was not lying! He totally cocky but not in the arrogant way and he’s just fun to be around.

And just when I thought Hollis couldn’t get anymore perfect, it turns out the guy reads romance novels! Like Hollis has a Kindle stocked up with romance novels of all kinds and he fucking doesn’t give a damn if you judge him for it. Like my mans was reading a romance novel while at the beach!! All that time spent reading doesn’t go to waste either since he’s gonna need all the help he can get if he wants to win over Melony in the end. I definitely needs me a man like Hollis in real life!

My least favorite character got what her bitch ass deserved in the end and I was so happy about that! It may have took a while for karma to come through but when she did, she really came through!

While this series and I didn’t start off on the right foot, I’m really happy that I decided to continue it and now it’s one of my new favorite series by Meghan Quinn. I highly recommend reading this series if you love your sports romances on the funnier side and don’t be put off by Bellini because she gets what’s coming for her by the end!

I'm Ari, a local NYC bibliophile and a forever daydreamer. You can usually find me with my nose buried in a book and my head up in the clouds. I am also a coffee addict and a chocolate connoisseur. I fell in love with the romance genre about three years ago and I haven't been able to stop reading about happily-ever-afters, which is ironic because I'm a bit of a cynical romantic in real life, haha. I hope you all enjoy my blog and fangirling with me about all the smutty reads!
