IT’S FINALLY HAPPENING!
THE QUEEN OF ONE-WORDED TITLES IS BACK! Fair warning, this review may consist of me doing a lot of screaming because I’ve waited three years for this series to be published so I have a lot of excitement right now. Let’s dive into this review…
As the new sheriff of Loveless, Case Lawton is determined to undo the wrongs of his father and to keep the people of this small town safe. But when one of the people in trouble is none other than Aspen Barlow, the lawyer that costed him custody of his son, Case will have to put his ill-feelings aside to find out who would want to harm Aspen before it’s too late.
If you enjoy your small town romances with a dash of suspense, then Jay Crownover’s newest series is one you need to read! I wasn’t expecting this series to be filled with so many twists and turns but the small town of Loveless sure has its secrets and I’m dying to find out about everyone’s dirty laundry. I will say that even though it seems pretty obvious who are main suspect is, there’s a twist to the plot twist and I wasn’t expecting the ending to play out like it did so it just goes to show that even though you may think you have this story figured out, just wait for it because Crownover has some tricks up her sleeves. Aside from the gripping suspense, I really loved the family dynamic in this book. The Lawton siblings had it rough growing up and it’s what brought them closer together as they grew older. Even though they may fight and not always see eye-to-eye on things, they have each others back no matter what. Kody Lawton is by far my favorite of the trio so far. She’s so rough around the edges and outspoken but she’s also hella guarded and I need to know why that is so hopefully the wait for this sequel won’t be too long.
Aspen Barlow is everything you would expect from a Jay Crownover heroine. She’s feisty, sassy as hell and she doesn’t run from a fight. I loved Aspen immediately because she’s genuinely a good person who just wants to help others. Aspen goes through the ringer in this book, dodging death more than once but she never lets that slow her down. She’s a fighter through and through! Case on the other hand took some time to warm up to. Case totally reminded me of Rule Archer from Crownover’s Marked Men series! They are both such assholes in the beginning and Case totally tested my patience. Aspen was such a good match for Case because she handed his bullshit right back to him and put him in his place. Even though he was an asshole most of the time, Case was a great father to his son, Hayes. I loved Case and Hayes’ relationship and I’m kind of hoping Hayes get a book of his own because there’s a story there with mini Lawton and I need it. The romance is so freakin’ angsty! Aspen has had a crush on Case since they were in high school but those feelings kind of got pushed aside after Case’s attitude towards her after the custody battle. All that sexual tension has been building up for years between these two so once they finally do put their difference aside, it’s just explosive!
Justified was such a satisfying read and I’m probably gonna continue to scream about this series until the next book releases. If you have yet to read a book by Jay Crownover, THEN PICK THIS SERIES UP ASAP AND POP YOUR JAY CROWOVER CHERRY!
